About this Project
This study addresses critical gaps in understanding migrant profiles, the factors fueling migration, and pre-migration perceptions. We aim to gather insights from both origin communities and migrants at the blue border. These findings will guide protective measures and reintegration efforts while promoting development in areas of origin as an alternative to migration.
The present study is motivated by a lack of information on migrant profiles, push factors for migration, and pre-migration perceptions and intentions. It seeks to gather such information in communities of origin and among migrants at the blue border. The findings will help inform migrant protection and assistance interventions as well as longer-term programs aimed at facilitating the reintegration of repatriated migrants and at promoting development in areas of origin to provide meaningful alternatives to migration
Our role is to provide to the IOM the following services:
a) Describe the socio-demographic profiles of prospective migrants to the United States of America in areas of origin and at transit points along the blue border.
b) Evaluate push and pull factors driving migration decisions for different groups of people, considering areas of origin, age, gender, and relevant social and economic characteristics.
c) Evaluate the level of information and perceptions of prospective migrants about regular and irregular migration routes.
d) Gather information on blue border migration trends and routes.
e) Identify opportunities for interventions promoting regular migration routes, reducing the risks of irregular migration, or addressing push factors in areas of residence prior to migration.
f) Assess key protection risks faced by prospective migrants to the United States of America and their interaction with specific vulnerabilities at individual and household levels.
g) Amplify the perspectives of prospective migrants to the United States of America of diverse social backgrounds to contribute to advocacy efforts.
